Craig Andrews Craig Andrews, CPCU ARM AAI AU-M ARe AIC ASLI AMIM CRIS, is the son of an independent insurance agent. Andrews entered the insurance industry in 1977 as a producer in an independent agency in Ohio.Within a few months, he established his own independent agency from scratch, which he operated successfully for nineteen years.During this time, he also became an active insurance teacher, leading commercial insurance coverage courses for CPCU chapters, the Ohio Independent Insurance Agents’ association, several state PIA affiliates, and The National Alliance. In 1996, Craig sold his agency to accept a position as a commercial production underwriter with State Auto Insurance Companies in Columbus, Ohio. Four years later, he became the manager of the company’s personal and commercial insurance underwriting and sales operations in Michigan. In 2006, Craig assumed a leadership position in State Auto’s home office commercial underwriting staff department as its director of commercial insurance product development. He retired from State Auto in May 2016. Besides serving as a regular presenter in State Auto’s in-house commercial training programs, Craig has made commercial insurance presentations for the annual meeting of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies; the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies’ Commercial Lines Seminar; the Insurance Journal/Academy of Insurance; the Indiana State University Networks Financial Institute; the Insurance Board of Northern Ohio; the Federation of Insurance Women of Texas; The National Alliance; and PIA affiliates in Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia and South Carolina. His article on data breach was published in The Standard, the monthly New England insurance journal, in January, 2015. Craig has appeared as expert witness at trial and in deposition in multiple legal actions involving commercial insurance coverage, including disputes regarding Commercial Property, Commercial General Liability, the Businessowner Policy, Commercial Auto, Garagekeepers Insurance, and Commercial Umbrella. He has also worked with law firms as coverage expert in the defense of errors and omissions actions against insurance agents. Craig earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in 1983 and is a member of The CPCU Society and its Coverage, Litigators and Expert Witness (CLEW) Interest Group. He is a past president of Grand Lake Chapter of The CPCU Society and a past president of Underwriting Executives Council. He is currently an associate member of the American Association of Insurance Management Consultants. Besides the CPCU, Craig has also earned the Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Accredited Adviser in Insurance (AAI), Associate in Commercial Underwriting – Management (AU-M), Associate in Reinsurance (ARe), Associate in Claims (AIC), Associate in Marine Insurance Management (AMIM), and Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance (ASLI) professional designations awarded by The Institutes. He earned The Institutes’ “Award for Academic Excellence” for both the AMIM and ASLI designation programs. He has also earned IRMI’s Construction Risk & Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designation. In 1996, Craig became the first recipient of The Jack V. Hedges “Instructor of the Year” Award presented by the Professional Insurance Agents of Ohio. Prior to affiliating with Malecki, Deimling Nielander & Associates in January 2018, Craig operated Andrews Risk Advisory, LLC, a consultancy founded in 2016 to provide expert witness services to law firms and coverage form expertise for property-casualty insurers. He is a graduate of Indiana University, a U.S. Navy veteran, and an Eagle Scout. |
